If you’re as excited about everything Apple as we are, you were following along with the Keynote presentation Gather Round event on September 12. If you missed it, here’s what you need to know:
iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max
Tim Cook introduced the iPhone Xs by saying that it is “by far the most advanced iPhone we have ever created.”
The iPhone Xs will still have a screen size of 5.8 inches and a resolution of 2436x1125, but it now has 60% greater dynamic range and a better stereo. It’s also available in a great new colour, gold, in addition to silver and space grey.
The iPhone Xs Max has a big 6.5inch edge-to-edge display, with a resolution of 2688x1242.
If you’re notorious for dropping your phone in the sink, both phones are rated for water protection, and can last for up to 30 minutes in two metres of water!
For the camera buff, the phones now have a new dual-camera system, with a new sensor for bigger, deeper pixels on the 12 megapixel wide-angle camera. The camera also has new Smart HDR which will take a bunch of exposures and combine them intelligently for more details and better highlights. You can also record stereo sound for the first time.
The phones will also use an internal eSIM and standard microSIM for dual-SIM support. And are available in Apple’s largest ever capacity, with 512GB of storage space.
These phones are available to order now!
Apple also introduced the more affordable iPhone XR. It looks similar to the iPhone X, with the same size display. It’s screen resolution is slightly lower, but still has tap-to-wake, True tone, wide colour range.
The iPhone XR comes in 6 different colours and will be available to order on October 19.
Apple Watch Series 4
One of the most exciting announcements of the event, the Apple Watch Series 4 lives up to the hype.
Available in 40mm and 44mm size, lighter and with a thinner body, the screens are now 30% larger and allow watch faces to display up to 8 complications and native app can show more information.
The new heart detection features, made possible with a new electrical heart sensor, include the ability to perform electrocardiogram (ECG) readings right out of the box. It also includes technology to detect a fall and call emergency services if necessary.
The Digital Crown now includes haptic feedback for better responsiveness, the built-in speaker is 50% louder, and the microphone has been relocated for better sound quality.
The back is made entirely of ceramic and sapphire crystal, which allows better reception when using cellular function. The batter life will remain the same even with the addition of new technology, and for all the runners, you can look forward to 6 hours of battery life when using outdoor workouts.
There are all new watch band types and colours available as well which are still compatible with the previous watch series.
The Series 4 is available to order now!
The new iOS 12 will also ship on all new products and is available for download on current products right away. iOS 12 is a significant update for the operating system designed for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It introduces multiple new features, with Apple revamping the operating system from top to bottom to make iPhones and iPads, especially the older models, faster and more responsive.
