Make 2019 the year you start making better habits with your technology to ensure you have the best experience possible.
Here are our top recommendations to help you have a better tech year:
1. Back up your devices
There is nothing that breaks our hearts more than when someone comes in with a hard drive issue on their computer or a cracked phone screen but they haven’t backed up their data in months - or ever! Plenty of people only start backing up their computer after something goes wrong. Let this be your reminder to start backing up now!
There are lots of options available: For iOS devices, we always recommend backing up to iCloud, and for your Mac we carry a range of external hard drives in store, so feel free to come by and talk with one of our Apple Specialists who can help you choose the right solution for you.
2. Use Family Sharing to split up Apple IDs
This is us suggesting that you and your family stop sharing accounts!
Family Sharing makes it easy for you and up to five family members to share iTunes, Apple Books, and App Store purchases, an Apple Music family plan, and an iCloud storage plan. Your family can also share a photo album and a family calendar, and even help locate each other’s missing devices.
It’s simple to set up, affordable, and offers so many advantages. Learn more about Family Sharing.
3. Browse the web securely using a VPN
Using a VPN for your time online can offer so many advantages, including online security, identity protection, and can stop eavesdroppers, in addition to other great safety benefits.
We recommend the VPN service offered from Private Internet Access. It’s powered by a state of the art, tier-1 multi-gigabit private network. Learn more about the advantages of a VPN through Private Internet Access.
4. Strong Password and Password Management
We all know that we aren’t keeping our accounts secure by using the same password for every site and account we log in to. But how can you create a strong password for every single account to want to access without losing them or forgetting them? We recommend using iCloud Keychain, where you can keep your passwords and other secure information updated across your devices.
Once your iCloud Keychain is set up, you can use the Safari browser to suggest secure passwords. When you try to log in to a website that requires a password, Safari will pop up a message asking if you want to use a Safari-suggested password. Click on the supplied password if you want to use it, and Safari will AutoFill it into the password field on the website.
5. Back up your devices!
I know we've already mentioned the importance of this but one place isn't always enough. You can get peace of mind knowing that all of your files are backed up securely in the cloud in addition to your hard drive. We recommend using BackBlaze, which offers unlimited backup for a low price. Set up a free trial with Backblaze.
These are just a few great ways to start your year off at its best with your tech. If you've got any questions or want to make the most of your technology through one-on-one training, come in and see us or give us a call any time.
